IMPHAL: Chief minister
N Biren Singh informed the assembly on Thursday that names of at least 75,000 'illegal voters' have been removed from the state's electoral rolls in the last six months.
"These voters had their names enrolled in a faulty manner," Biren said. He added, "During the recent electors' verification programme, 75,000 people were confirmed to have been wrongly listed and hence they were de-listed."
He said that as per the
Manipur Inner Line Permit Guidelines 2019, if any non-local wants his name in the state electoral rolls, he should submit an authorization letter from his native state which declares that his name has been removed form his home state's voters' list.
Discussing tourism, the chief minister said that there is no disparity in fund allocation for different festivals in the state. Stating that the Shirui Festival in Ukhrul district has become a popular
destination and has caught pubic attention in a short span of time, Biren said that the present budget allocation for the festival will also be increased.
He informed the House that as part of the government's effort to turn Manipur into a tourist destination, the
government is planning to set up a summer city in Tengnoupal. "For making the Manipur Sangai festival popular, the government has been organising curtain-raiser events in major cities, including Delhi, besides publicity through local and national media," Biren said.
