To paraphrase that famous beer commercial, the Geneva Motor Show is the most interesting motoring event in the world. It also happens to be the most expansive as far as world premieres go, with this year’s event expected to play host to over 150 world and European debuts.
the Geneva International Motor Show (or GIMS), as it’s officially called, will have an extremely busy press day on March 3, followed by a VIP Day on March 4, before welcoming the public from March 5-15.
Will everyone be there?
While it’s immune to the coronavirus outbreak that led to several cancellations of other large events like the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona due later this month, GIMS hasn’t dodged the industry trend of automakers dropping out of big shows. This year’s list of absentees includes Ford, the Jaguar-Land Rover group, Lamborghini and the PSA Group including the Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel brands. Genesis has not made it clear if it will participate.
What new models will create a buzz?
For starters, we’re going to see plenty of new electric cars making their debuts in Switzerland, such as Fiat’s reborn 500 with a battery-powered version, BMW’s i4 sports sedan in near-production trim, and the Fisker Ocean SUV. Other major premieres include the new generation Audi A3 series, the Hyundai i20 subcompact, the VW Golf GTI, the entire family of updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class models and the (rumored for now) BMW 4-Series with its controversial grille.

Updates 2/27/2020: New arrivals for today include the Microlino 2.0 Isetta lookalike, the Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne (official now), and the Apex AP-0 Electric Concept, along with fresh photos for a few other models. We’ve also removed the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 and E63, as our sources tell us they won’t be in Geneva, instead we’ll see the facelifted version of the regular E-Class, E53 AMG and All-Terrain.
