Yavatmal: The
anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths trapped a Class-I officer of cooperative societies in Mahagaon tehsil of
Yavatmal on Thursday while accepting bribe from a private money lender.
According to deputy SP of Yavatmal ACB Rajesh Muley, a 62-year-old man had lodged a complaint with the bureau about Class-I officer Digambar Khursade demanding Rs3 lakh bribe to absolve him of charges of being in illegal money lending business.
After a bargain, Khursade agreed to favour the complainant for a bribe of Rs1 lakh, to be paid in two instalments. As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, he approached the ACB and a trap was laid. As per plan, the complainant was sent to the accused’s office in Mahagaon with marked currency notes worth Rs50,000. As soon as Khursade accepted the amount, the ACB sleuths caught him red-handed and put him under arrest.
The officer has been booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act by Mahagaon police. Further investigations are being carried out by Muley and his team.
