AHMEDABAD: It was a teary-eyed moment for senior citizens at Jeevan Sandhya old age home in Naranpura on Thursday morning when they were handed kids ranging from a few weeks to a few years as part of ‘
adoption’ initiative.
C K Patel, president of Ahmedabad District Probation and Aftercare Association that runs ‘Shishu Gruh’ - children home for the orphans - said that it was a novel experiment where the senior citizens who don’t get to live with their grandchildren, and the children who have not seen their grandparents, will find each other. “They have so much love to give and I am sure it would benefit both the groups emotionally,” he said.
The initiative was announced and commenced to coincide with 60th birthday of a city-based management thinker Shailesh Thaker, also a member of the association. “What could be a better event than a child getting his/her parents?” he said.
Officials at Jeevan Sandhya old age home said that distance from their families often make the senior citizens feel incomplete and doubt their roles in active society. “We are hopeful that with this initiative, they would feel that warmth - even for a few hours - to find purpose in life,” said an official.
