LUDHIANA: The division number 3
police have booked a head constable deputed at the police station for the alleged embezzlement of Rs 19 lakh. According to officials, the accused
cop, identified as Malkeet Singh, is currently absent from his duty.
Malkeet was a munshi, who allegedly embezzled the amount from the maalkhana.
In his complaint to police,
Tejas Patel, a businessman from Nirankari Mohalla, said in 2018, the division number 3 police had stopped him for checking at a checkpost and recovered Rs 51.85 lakh from his possession. The income-tax officials were also called who had seized the cash. Later, he had shown the documents related to the cash, following which the I-T officials had ordered the munshi to return the cash.
But the head constable returned him Rs 32.85 lakh in cash, but refused to give the remaining amount.
Investigating officer ASI Mohan Singh said Tejas had lodged a complaint with the police commissioner Rakesh Agarwal after which an inquiry was marked. After inquiry, an FIR has been lodged against cop under Section 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant) of the IPC. The head constable has been absent from duty for the past three days, he added.
