New bus stand at Wakdewadi
PUNE: The state transport utility has urged MahaMetro to complete on a priority basis the basic facilities at the makeshift bus terminus in Wakdewadi.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on January 1 shifted the operations from its Shivajinagar depot to Wakdewadi to facilitate Metro work. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited was entrusted with the task of setting up of the Wakdewadi facility.

Two months have passed since then, but the newly developed facility is yet have a compound wall, rest room for drivers and conductors and toilets. “Most facilities for the commuters are in place at the new site. Some work pertaining to rest rooms for our drivers, conductors and staffers are yet to be completed. We are following up the issue with the MahaMetro administration and have urged them to take up the pending construction on a priority basis,” a senior MSRTC official said.
The MSRTC is in the process to shift the bus maintenance depot to Wakdewadi. A shed has been constructed by MahaMetro for repairs and maintenance of the buses. The shed will have some amenities for passengers.
An MSRTC official said among the civil works proposed at the new location were water tanks and separate toilet facilities for its drivers and conductors.
MahaMetro officials said they would complete all the work mentioned in the contract signed with the MSRTC. “We will provide all necessary assistance to complete the pending works at the earliest,” a MahaMetro official said.
MahaMetro has, in the meantime, started construction of the underground Metro work at Shivajinagar. “Demolition of building structures and piling work have started. We have deployed machineries at the site to expedite the station’s work,” a MahaMetro official said.
