Pizzeria gutted as gas leak sparks fire in Nizampura

The fire occurred on Thursday afternoon
VADODARA: Kitchen of a pizzeria in Nizampura was gutted after fire broke out due to leakage from an LPG cylinder on Thursday afternoon.
Leakage in one of the three operational gas cylinders led to fire when one of the employees ignited a stove. No staff member or customer at the restaurant was injured. Most of them rushed out as soon as the fire broke out. As flames started engulfing the kitchen, occupants of neighbouring buildings started sprinkling water to contain the fire until the firemen reached.
Fire department sources said that initial sprinkling of water really helped, as the fire did not spread further in the dining area of the restaurant. “When our staff reached there was thick smoke in the restaurant but we used self-contained breathing apparatus and sprayed water,” said fire officer Om Jadeja. He added that as fire was brought under control, efforts were made to remove the smoke using cross ventilation technique.
“There could have been a major disaster as there were 10 more LPG cylinders in the premises. Had these cylinders caught fire, the disaster would have gone out of control,” he added.
