Gurgaon: The
police have stepped up vigilance across the city in the wake of riots in neighbouring Delhi. Late-night patrolling, barricaded border areas, deployment of more forces at sensitive spots and continuous dialogue with prominent people belonging to various communities have helped Gurgaon police maintain peace in the entire city, while Delhi is reporting multiple casualties in the riots.
In view of communal clashes between two communities over Citizenship Amendment Act (
CAA) and National Register of Citizens (
NRC) in the north eastern part of Delhi, Gurgaon police for the past four days is on its toes with increased vigil and patrolling. The police commissioner along with DCPs and ACPs are conducting patrolling during late nights.
Police presence has been increased across the city while permanent deployment was made at sensitive areas, including religious places. Police are also monitoring the movement of people at border areas. Leaves of personnel have been cancelled.
Police commissioner Mohammad Akil, who is also the additional director general of Haryana Police, said they have made round-the-clock deployment of forces across the city and at sensitive border areas in particular wherein policemen work in different shifts. City magistrates have been appointed and special instructions have been given to all officers to ensure peace. “Along with this, we are conducting meetings with leaders of different communities,” said Akil.
Check posts have been installed across the areas bordering Mewat and Delhi to restrict and monitor movement of people. “Monitoring is being done only when required. All vehicles are not being checked in a bid to avert inconvenience to commuters,” he said. Akil also said all senior officers are conducting patrolling.
Two years ago, Gurgaon had witnessed communal flare-ups over offering namaz in open areas. The police have taken measures to avoid such situation in the city. Special security arrangement is being made for Friday prayers. “In the prevailing situation, we don’t want to take any chance,” said a senior police officer, adding that Gurgaon shares borders with New Delhi and Mewat, and protests over CAA and NRC are still being organised in both places. The situation can go out of control anytime, and that’s why these measures to tackle any untoward situation, said a police officer.
