PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old youth on the charges of abducting and molesting a minor girl on February 24.
The boy and the girl had known each other since their childhood as they stayed in the same locality, said a source in police.
The girl is a seventh standard student.
Police said the boy had abducted the girl by luring her to accompany him and proposed to her by claiming that he could not live without her.
A police officer said, “The boy took the girl to a secluded spot near their residence and molested her there. He then went on to confine her in a room.”
The officer said the girl’s sister in-law lodged an FIR with the police, suspecting the involvement of the boy in the former’s disappearance. A police team then took the boy into custody from his hideout. The girl was rescued following a tip-off, said the officer. She was subsequently handed over to her parents.
A special court on Wednesday remanded the boy in judicial custody for 14 days.
An offence under sections 363 (abduction), 354 (molestation) and 341 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered, the police said.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
