AUDA-CIOUS move: Making Ahmedabad a city of flyovers

AUDA announces Rs 929 crore budget for year 2020-21; focus to be on flyovers , foot overbridges, afforestation, redevelopment of lakes and setting up bio-diversity parks
Traffic snarls on the outskirts of the city are expected to ease soon. TheAhmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) on Wednesday approved the construction of three new flyovers on the outskirts, while seven are in the process of being built.
Four of flyovers will be completed by March 2021, four more apart from a foot overbridge are in the process of construction and three more were approved approved in the board meeting on Wednesday, AUDA chairmanVijay Nehra said.
AUDA presented its budget of Rs 929 crore for 2020-21 on Wednesday, higher by 101% than last year’s approved budget of Rs 417 crore.

Roads, water and drainage
Rs 289.76 crore has been allocated for footpath, roads and storm water lines in the logistics zone in Kaneti-Chekhla, Nidhrad and Godhavi area. RCC roads will be constructed in these areas looking at the movement of heavy vehicles.
For the ongoing work of Narmada water supply in Bopal, AUDA will release Rs 45 crore of the total cost of Rs 73.53 crore this year.
Rs 36 crore will be released for ongoing work of laying drainage and storm water line in Bopal, Manipur, Shela, Godhavi, Ghuma, Bareja and Aslali. Additionally, Rs 5 crore has been allocated for new drainage and storm water line in Ranasan, Dehgam and Kunjad.
Flyovers
Currently, work on construction of flyover is in progress at four junctions on SP Ring Road, including at Dehgam, Sanathal, Shantipura and Zundal. These flyovers are expected to be opened for public by 2021.
Rs 105 crore has been allocated for construction of two flyovers—at Bhat canal and Bhat-Apollo— and an over-bridge at Ghuma railway line. Of this, Rs 5 crore will be released this year.
Houses
A total of 630 houses, constructed at a cost of Rs 56.31 crore will be ready and handed over to beneficiaries in June this year. A fresh budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for construction of 5080 houses underPradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Sanand, Zundal, Kathwada, Mehemdabad and Bopal. Of this, Rs 10 crore will be released this year.
Mehemdabad will get a new auditorium at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
Sports
Rs 10 crore has been allocated for sports grounds in Bopal, Manipur andKalol .
Going clean and green
Rs 9.48 crore has been allocated for construction of gardens on 113 plots and redevelopment of lakes in various areas under AUDA.
Rs 1 crore has been declared for solid waste segregation and enabling composting at 167 villages and six municipalities.
Rs 2 crore has been earmarked for afforestation along roads under TP/DP schemes this year.
Rs 2.5 crore has been allocated for development of biodiversity parks, that will be constructed at total projected cost of Rs 10 crore
Townships to manage own fire-safety
Townships in AUDA’s jurisdiction will be responsible for their fire safety arrangements. They will have to set up a fire station and procure required equipment. AUDA will then sign an MoU with them for providing manpower.
