BCA fetes U-19 nat’l champ team with Rs 15L reward

The Baroda team was felicitated on Wednesday
Vadodara: Last season, Baroda boys faced intense criticism after they lost 18 matches on the trot including games they played in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy.
On Wednesday, the same team was beaming while it picked up the champions cup of Cooch Behar Trophy in presence of Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) management.
The Baroda team that won the national championship 10 days ago was felicitated on Wednesday by the BCA that also announced a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh for all the team members. It is for the first time that such prize has been given by the BCA to the U-19 team for winning the Cooch Behar Trophy after 2007. “We are thankful to the BCA for providing us facilities and motivating the players to perform better. We focussed on our fielding and fitness this season and that helped the team in outplaying our rivals,” said Ajit Bhoite, coach of the team.
It was a team performance as batsman, Parikshit Patidar amassed 752 runs including three centuries and as many fifties, Kush Marathe scored 700 runs consisting of two tons and three fifties while Atharva Karulkar gathered 466 runs including three fifties. In bowling department, Archan Kothari took 46 wickets, Malhar Ghevaria picked 45 wickets and scored 276 runs, Mahesh Pithiya got 44 scalps and 223 runs and Jaypal Chad bagged 11 wickets.
Shashwat Rawat, who joined the team in the finals, scored a crucial 105 runs to help his team win. BCA president Pranav Amin handed over the cheque of Rs 15 lakh to the team. “Coming back into the game after last year’s debacle was like film ‘Chak De’. The team showed perseverance, determination and character and we all need to learn from them,” Amin said.
In a noble gesture, the winning team decided to give Rs 1 lakh to the BCA’s ground staff.
