ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad HC on Wednesday stayed a lower court’s order to proceed with the hearing of a case related to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple-Gyanvapi Masjid dispute in Varanasi.
On February 4, 2020, the Varanasi lower court had held that since in the writ petition related to the dispute, pending before Allahabad HC, no interim order had been extended in past six months, the stay was deemed to be vacated as per SC ruling in ‘Asian Resurfacing of Road Agencies case’ and it can resume hearing. One of the parties in the case, Anjuman Intazamia Masjid of Varanasi, challenged Varanasi court’s decision. Hearing the petition, Justice Ajay Bhanot stayed the civil court’s order to resume hearing and fixed March 17 as the next date of hearing.
