PATNA: The construction of several delayed infrastructure projects, including foot overbridges (FoB) and underpasses, is likely to begin in the city in a couple of months.
According to road construction department (RCD) officials, the delay occurred due to reasons like lack of budget last year and incomplete bidding process.
The bidding process for different projects, including the FoBs in Rupaspur, Rajendra Nagar and in front of Patna zoo as well as two underpass escalators near Samrat Ashoka Convention Centre, were initiated last year to ease traffic and pedestrian movement across the busy streets.
A senior RCD official told this newspaper that the department was trying to ensure smooth vehicular movement in the city. “Bidding process for several proposed FoBs and underpasses are in the final stages. Construction works will begin soon after,” he added.
Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) managing director Sanjay Kumar Agarwal claimed that the detailed project report (DPR) for two FoBs in Rupaspur and Rajendra Nagar had been made ready.
“The proposed FoBs will be built as soon as we finalize the bidding process and find a suitable firm to undertake the work. The construction work will take around six months. The FoBs in Rupaspur near the Jagdeo Path-Sheikhpura Mor flyover and another near Rajendra Nagar overbridge will be constructed utilising an estimated outlay of Rs 2.19 crore and 2.78 crore, respectively,” Agarwal said, adding that two more FoBs would be constructed near R-Block as the stretch witnessed heavy vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Similarly, a tender is being finalized for the construction of foot underpasses with escalator in front of the Samrat Ashoka International Convention Centre. The underpass, connecting the centre with Shri Krishna Memorial Hall, will be developed at an estimated outlay of Rs 11 crore.
“We have initiated bidding process for the construction work, which will be finalized in a month,” an official of the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited said.
FoBs will also be constructed at strategic locations on the New Bypass Road.
“The stretch between Anisabad and zero mile is one of the busiest roads in the city. Pedestrians also face a lot of difficulties. Hence, the National Highways Authority of India will construct two FoBs at the most crowded locations on the stretch,” said Agarwal, who is also Patna divisional commissioner.
