Agra: Woman in Rajdhani held for smuggling 20 kg of cannabis

Accused in police custody
AGRA: In a joint operation by GRP and RPF, a 27-year-old woman was arrested from Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express for smuggling contraband to Aligarh. Her accomplice waiting at Agra Cantt station was arrested as well.
Identified as Suman Singh of Salempur village of Aligarh district, the accused was booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police also arrested one Praveen Kumar, a Sasani resident of Hathras district. The 41-year-old was waiting in a hatchback at the railway station for Suman.
On Wednesday, circle officer of GRP Agra division Anurag Singh said, "Our police team seized 20 kg of cannabis, whose value is worth Rs 1.60 lakh. The contraband was smuggled from Visakhapatnam."
"In the past few years, we have made several arrests of men and women who were acting as courier of drug cartels based in Delhi and Aligarh. Their modus operandi is simple. They book tickets of premium trains and travel like normal passengers to smuggle drugs. Till date, we haven't found the source and the last man in the string of drug racket. None of the apprehended accused really knows, as who is the kingpin of the drug cartel," he said.
Since 2015, nearly Rs 5 crore worth of cannabis has been seized from Agra Cantt railway station from scores of couriers said to be travelling from Visakhapatnam.
