Dharmadhikari gets collegium nod as HC CJ

NEW DELHI: The Union law ministry has notified appointment of senior-most judge of the Bombay high court Justice B P Dharmadhikari as its acting Chief Justice on Monday on retirement of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog.
Interestingly, on Monday the SC collegium also recommended Justice B P Dharmadhikari to be appointed as its Chief Justice, a proposal still pending with the ministry. Appointment of Justice B P Dharmadhikari as acting Chief Justice was done after Justice S C Dharmadhikari, senior-most judge of the Bombay HC after then Chief Justice Nandrajog, resigned effective February 15. He later told journalists that he wanted to remain in Maharashtra for family reasons for which he quit. Since he was considered for elevation as chief justice of an HC, he would have had to leave the parent HC.
