NEW DELHI: With a spike in
coronavirus cases, mainly in countries outside China, India has once again revised its travel advisory asking citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Republic of Korea,
Iran and
Italy.
Meanwhile, a flight from Wuhan carrying around 120 passengers including some foreign nationals is expected to reach Delhi airport at 4 am on Thursday, sources in
ITBP said.
The ITBP quarantine facility has been kept ready to receive Indians and friendly nations’ citizens from Wuhan - the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in China.
While immigration process will take around an hour, the evacuees will be screened at the airport isolation bay by a team of doctors from ITBP. After this, these people will be taken to ITBP’s Chhawla Camp – which also housed over 400 evacuees earlier and released them after 17 days of isolation when all cases tested negative of coronavirus infection.
The new batch of evacuees will also be kept at the ITBP quarantine facility for the required period, the official said.
Besides, travellers from Republic of Korea, Iran and Italy or having such travel history since February 10 may be quarantined for 14 days on arrival to India, the health ministry’s fresh advisory said.
The new travel advisory, issued on 26 February will be applicable along with the existing advisories against travel to China. The last one issued on February 22 advised citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Singapore.
The update comes in view of the evolving situation related to coronavirus being reported from these countries.
Currently, passengers from China, Hong Kong, Thailand,
South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal are screened at 21 designated airports in the country for possible exposure to the virus infection.
The WHO has declared the recent outbreak as epidemic affecting 30 countries as public health emergency of international concern.
