BENGALURU: Now, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) passengers purchasing daily passes will get green points. The corporation, along with a city-based startup, Series-5 Labs, has come up with Green Miles programme to encourage public transport users.
Passengers purchasing a Vajra AC daily pass for Rs 147 through BMTC’s Namma Pass portal will get ‘seven green mile points’, which is equivalent to Rs 7. The points can be redeemed during subsequent ticket bookings. “So far, 3,500 BMTC Vajra passengers have utilised this digital ticketing facility. To join the Green Miles programme, passengers will have to download reSearch App from Google Playstore, create a profile, buy a pass for the first ride and then redeem the points during subsequent purchases,” said Saro Chandra Bhooshan, CEO of Series-5 Labs.
He said they have a tie-up with several private firms to launch the facility. The startup, along with BMTC, launched BMTC Namma Pass, a digital ticketing facility for the Volvo Vajra service in 2019. BMTC received a good response from passengers, especially those travelling to ITPL and Electronics City.
Commuters needn’t necessarily download the mobile app to use the Namma Pass facility. They can instead visit www.nammapass.series-5.com, enter personal details, upload a selfie and pay for the daily pass through digital wallets. Selfie is mandatory to avoid the use of same pass by multiple passengers.
Upon boarding, the passenger has to show the digital pass on his/her mobile phone to the conductor. The conductor will then provide his/her ID number to the passenger. Once it is validated, an SMS will be sent to the conductor’s mobile and BMTC server. Then the conductor will enter the Namma Pass number on the electronic ticketing machine.
A Vajra daily pass costs Rs 147 and there are complaints of conductors not returning the balance (Rs 3) and also the same pass being used by multiple passengers.
