Hospital development panel inspects CMCH

Coimbatore: A four-member team of hospital development committee on Wednesday inspected the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), interacted with the staff and patients.
The committee evaluated the staff, space and infrastructure that the hospital requires to improve its functioning. The team is expected to submit a report to the state government on the same.
The team comprised former CMCH dean Dr Vimala, Dr Theranirajan, Dr Sathya, who is a pediatrician at Vellore Medical College, and Dr Gandhimathi Nathan, who is known for transforming the tuberculosis sanitorium at Kapalur in Madurai.
Confirming the inspection, CMCH dean Dr B Ashokan said the committee was set up mainly to study government hospitals and assess and recommend what was required to improve their infrastructure to the government.
According to him, the hospital, which used to get around 400 outpatients, now gets around 7,000. “The team inspected different parts of the hospital. They are likely to evaluate if the hospital’s infrastructure has increased accordingly or whether it requires more facilities, space, staff or outsourced staff. They will observe cleanliness and the care given to patients,” he said.
After the inspection, the team asked all the departments to submit a list of infrastructure requirements that they needed. “They also made a few recommendations like adding seats for the attenders and treating pediatric trauma patients in the Tamil Nadu accident and emergency care initiative ward. They were impressed with our orthopedic and obstetrics wards and that there wasn’t any patient on the floor anymore,” said a doctor.
The committee members were unavailable for any commet.
