LUCKNOW: May onwards, the ‘dark underbelly’ of around a dozen flyovers and rail overbridges in the city will be ‘lit’ up with greenery.
The vacant spaces below the flyovers, which have become garbage dumping spots, will have
rainwater harvesting plants, murals and green belts as is seen under the polytechnic flyover in Chinhat.
Executed by
Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), the project will see makeover of 12 flyovers and RoBs. These include the ones in Talkatora, Buddheshwar, Kanausi Purania, Daliganj, Nishatganj, Husadia, Gwari intersection, Mithaiwala crosing and Indira Bridge.
The development authority has tied up with a private firm to conduct the beautification work.
Horticulturist and project manager Surya Vikram Singh said, “Apart from installing rainwater harvesting plants and restoring a green belt, we will use plastic water bottles to make murals.”
According to LDA officials, beautification work beneath each flyover will cost around Rs 10 lakh. At present, this space is either filled with garbage or stray animals have occupied the area, making it messy and littered.
The decision has been taken on the directions of Lucknow divisional commissioner Mukesh Mehsram.
“We are expecting to complete the beautification work for all 12 flyovers within two months. Apart from the makeover, we are installing rainwater harvesting plants to recharge underground water level,” said LDA chief engineer Indu Shekhar Singh.
