Ludhiana: A plucky resident, along with passersby, nabbed two snatchers near Old Sessions Court Chowk on Tuesday afternoon.
Deepak Kumar, 22, a resident of Anand Puri on Noorwala Road, said in his police complaint, “After alighting from a bus at Bharat Nagar Chowk, I started walking towards Chatri Chowk as I had to go to a bank on Mall Road. Along the way, I was talking on phone. Suddenly, two men on a motorcycle came from the rear and snatched my cellphone on Mall Road. They then sped away towards Fountain Chowk.”
As Deepak raised the alarm, a commuter gave him a lift. The duo chased the snatchers and nabbed them near Old Sessions Court Chowk. Passersby gathered at the spot and thrashed the miscreants before handing them over to police.
Division 8 police station assistant sub-inspector Tara Singh said, “A case under Section 379 (snatching) of the IPC has been registered against the two, who have been identified as Gurdeep Singh and Swaran Kumar. Both are 21-year-old and residents of Dorha. Gurdeep already has a scuffle case registered against him.”
