Stock market update: Auto shares slump; Amara Raja slides over 3%

The Nifty Auto index was trading 1.39 per cent down at 7,263.8.

NEW DELHI: Shares of auto firms were in the red in Wednesday's morning trade.

Shares of Amara Raja Batteries (down 3.48 per cent), Motherson Sumi Systems (down 3.25 per cent), Ashok Leyland (down 2.79 per cent), Tata Motors (down 2.77 per cent) and Exide Industries (down 2.1 per cent) were among the top losers.

Eicher Motors (down 2.08 per cent), TVS Motor Company (down 1.71 per cent), Bharat Forge (down 1.51 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (down 1.33 per cent) too were trading with losses.

While Apollo Tyres (up 0.39 per cent) were among the top gainers.

The Nifty Auto index was trading 1.39 per cent down at 7,263.8 around 10:24 am.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 80.40 points at 11,717.5, while the BSE Sensex was 258.19 points at 40,023.01.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 were trading in the green, while 40 were in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, SBI, Indiabulls Housing, JSPL, GMR Infra, SAIL and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
