Ghaziabad: Municipal corporation is planning to issue an advisory to multiplex owners to asking them to
install air
purifiers in the theatres and put in place a mechanism to maintain oxygen levels. Officials said the advisory will be issued when a multiplex applies for annual health safety no objection certificate. There are 23 multiplexe in Ghaziabad.
Ghaziabad municipal corporation (GMC) health officer Mithilesh Kumar said: “The logic behind the step is to provide better
air to 200-300 people who sit in closed cinema halls for around three hours. Despite a central air conditioning system, level of carbon dioxide goes up (after a point). Carbon dioxide being heavier than oxygen, hovers at lower levels where people sit.” He added: “We plan to attach a letter with NOC applications asking theatre owners and management to explore ways to provide a better experience to people, but it’s in planning stage.”
According to norms, a gap of 22 minutes is kept between shows. “All doors are open so that fresh air can enter. We have an exhaust and air conditioning system in place,” said Sudhir Nath Tiwari, senior manager (relationship management), Carnival Cinemas.
