JORHAT: In its first ever convocation held here on Tuesday,
Assam Women's University (AWU), conferred degrees on 580
students who have graduated from 15 departments from September 2014 to July 2019.
Attending the programme, governor and chancellor of the university Jagdish Mukhi said, "It gives me immense pleasure to participate in the first convocation of AWU. I as a chancellor of this university congratulate all the students who have completed their studies and are ready to undertake their responsibilities in their respective fields." He added, "Making a humble beginning in 2014-15 when the university had only six programmes, now AWU has 15 programmes. Keeping in mind the present scenario, this university must concentrate on introducing skill-based, employment-oriented courses to nourish the young minds. I believe without economic independence, women's empowerment would be impossible."
In her welcome address, VC
Malinee Goswami said, "The university has constituted academic council, executive and research councils in the last five months. We have decided to start MPhil and PhD programmes in selected subjects from the next academic session."
