That looks ssssore! Incredible moment a vet pulls a beach towel from the throat of a python called 'Monty'

  • Monty the Jungle Carpet Python was rushed to a vet after it swallowed a towel
  • Teams at Small Animal Specialist Hospital in Sydney's north removed the towel
  • The family say Monty has recovered but they have no idea why she ate the towel

A vet filmed the moment she managed to pull a beach towel from the stomach of a three-metre long jungle carpet python.

Monty an 18-year-old snake was rushed to the Small Animal Specialist Hospital in Sydney's north-west last week after her family caught her devouring the towel.

An endoscope was placed down the snake's mouth before vets used long forceps to pull the towel out - which was still completely intact.

'Once we had a good grip, the towel was able to be carefully removed from the gastrointestinal tract with endoscopic guidance,' the Small Animal Specialist Hospital wrote on Facebook.

'It was smiles all round and we're happy to report that both Monty and the beach towel have lived to see another day!'

The towel was wedged so far back inside the snake that it started a metre away from the head.

They can grow up to three metres long and feed on mice, quails, marsupials, birds and bats

'Monty was discharged from hospital the same day and her owner reports she is back to her happy, hungry self,' staff said.

The snake was given to the team at the vet's Avian and Exotics Department after the family brought her in the morning after she devoured it.

'We see all kinds of interesting cases in our Avian and Exotics Department, but it's not every day we see something quite as unusual and as extraordinary as this case,' they said.

The family said they still don't know the reason behind Monty's strange eating habits but said she is recovering well.
