Ensure doctors at health centres: Jharkhand health minister to civil surgeon in East Singhbhum

RANCHI: In an effort to put ailing medical service in the East Singhbhum district primary health centres on tracks, state health minister has instructed the civil surgeon to take immediate action.
Sources said health minister Banna Gupta has directed the civil surgeon to ensure doctors are always available at all health centres across the district. Sources said Banna has issued the directives in order to reduce the patient pressure on state-run MGMMCH in Jamshedpur.
Banna at several meetings of the health department after he took charge had said if primary health centres and other health clinics have doctors available throughout the week, the pressure on bigger hospitals in cities would ease and in long run help in providing better and quality health care there.
Talking to TOI on Wednesday civil surgeon Maheshwar Prasad said: “The ratio between the doctors available and number of health centres has to be corrected first, so that all health centres at district level can have adequate doctors.”
He said: “Still I have instructed the department officials to ensure that doctors should perform their duty properly at primary health centres.”
Meanwhile, MGMMCH superintendent Sanjay Kumar acting on health minister’s directives found that ward boys and other staff are often missing from their duties at emergency department in late night hours. Kumar during his late night visits came across such cases where on duty staff were missing.
Sources said Kumar went through the attendance register to check those who were present but missing from their duties. Kumar warned the staff that if they don’t mend their ways, strict action would be taken and if required termination of job contract.
