SURAT:
Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) will award degrees to over 32,000 students at its 51st annual
convocation to be held here on Wednesday.
Kapil Dev, former captain of Indian cricket team, will be the chief guest at the convocation to be presided over by Acharya Devvrat, governor of Gujarat and chancellor of the university. Poet Rajesh Reddy will be the guest of honour.
About 150 students will be awarded gold medals by Kapil Dev for securing highest marks in different subjects at the event to be held in VNSGU
convention hall.
Highest number of students who will be receive the degrees are from commerce faculty. Their number is around 9,181 and they are pursuing 11 different courses in the commerce faculty. About 8,892 students of 23 courses of arts faculty will also receive their degrees along with 568 students of 32 courses of medicine faculty and 6,619 from faculty of science.
Only one student from the faculty of engineering will be awarded degree since majority of engineering students have migrated to
Gujarat Technological University.
"The convocation address by Kapil Dev is main attraction. He will inspire the fresh graduates to achieve their goals in life," said a university official.
"Students are advised to take their seats before 10.30am in the convention hall. They will have to complete the formalities before arriving in the convention hall. The office staff will start work from early morning in the administrative block," the official added.
