A 27-point lead with 2:30 left in the third quarter, Atlantis Charter fell victim to a comeback for the ages and lost to host Old Colony Regional 72-71 in the Division 4 South boys' basketball first round on Wednesday night at Old Colony.
The Cougars outscored the Tritons 44-16 after falling back by 27 and had a 35-13 edge in the fourth quarter.
Atlantis Charter led 71-70 with four seconds remaining and No. 3 Old Colony (17-4) inbounding at halfcourt. The Cougars got a short pass to an uncovered Hunter Soares who attacked from the left side and hit a short runner just before time expired.
For No. 14 Atlantis Charter (9-9), guard Sean Murphy had five 3-pointers and 27 points and junior center Jamani Alves had three 3s and 21 points. Ronaldo Ribeiro, Jr. added 10 points.

Aaron James and Declan Markey both scored 11 points for the 11th-seeded Spartans (10-11). No. 6 Burke is 14-7.

Falmouth 63, Somerset Berkley 38: At Falmouth, Lily Buron (12 points) and Karoline Gajewski (11) were the top scorers for the 12th-seeded Raiders (13-8) in this Division 2 South first-round loss.
Fifth-seeded Falmouth is 19-4.
