CBSE Board examinations put off in riot-hit areas of Delhi

NEW DELHI: Following Delhi high court direction asking Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to reschedule the board exams, the board confirmed that the Wednesday examination for Class X and XII in northeast Delhi has been postponed. However, in other parts, the exams will take place as scheduled, it clarified.
On Wednesday, English paper for Class X and web application/media for Class XII was scheduled at 86 centres in northeast Delhi, including government and private schools. The next date of the exam will be notified shortly, the board said.
The notice issued by CBSE read: "Based on the request of Directorate of Education and to avoid inconvenience to students, staff and parents, the board has decided to postpone the exam scheduled for February 26 in northeast Delhi."
Deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisodia had also requested the board to reschedule the examination. The government and private schools in northeast Delhi will be shut on Wednesday.
Earlier, Justice Rajiv Shakdher had asked CBSE to take the decision as soon as possible and convey it to all concerned, adding that children can't be put at risk. It had then posted the matter for Wednesday morning.
