LUDHIANA: A local court on Tuesday adjourned the Issewal gang rape case due to indefinite strike by advocates. The next date of hearing of the case in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rashmi Sharma is on March 5.
On February 9, a group of miscreants had allegedly gang raped a 20-year-old student after holding her and her friend hostage as they had gone to Issewal area to celebrate chocolate day.
The police had booked 10 unidentified accused in the case and arrested six accused, including Jagroop Singh, a private vehicle driver of Jaspal Bangar, Ajay of Tibba, who originally belonged to Gonda in Uttar Pradesh and worked as driver at a petrol pump and four nomads (two from Ludhiana and one from Nawanshahr), including a Juvenile from Jammu and Kashmir.
One the counsels said as the advocates were on strike because of a call given by the district bar association, the case was adjourned to March 5.
The counsel further said the prosecution had already got the examination in chief of prosecutrix and her friend done and the examination of many formal witnesses in the case. He added that these witnesses had fully supported the prosecution’s case.
