MUMBAI: An eyeglass used to examine diamonds, found at a crime scene, helped Dahisar police crack a murder case within two days. The killer was tracked down to Kanpur, UP, and was arrested. Police said Arvind Sharma, who worked at a diamond polishing workshop, had been badgering the victim for money in a drunken state.
On February 23, police found a body at Tanvi Compound in Dahisar (E). The autopsy said Ashok Kumar Maurya (37), a paan vendor, suffered unnatural head injuries, resulting in death. A murder case was registered. Maurya's wife told police she had last spoken to him on the phone at 9.38pm, when she overhead a drunk person demanding money from him.
When police found the eyeglass, they checked diamond polishing units in Dahisar. "We found that a worker was missing from Tanvi Industries the morning the murder was reported. Employees confirmed he was drunk and had fresh injuries on his face," said DCP DS Swami.
He admitted he hit his head with a stone.
