Madras high court restrains collection of toll at Vandiyur toll plaza near Madurai

MADURAI: The Madras high court on Wednesday restrained toll collection at Vandiyur toll plaza from 9am on February 27.
A division bench of Justice M Duraiswamy and Justice T Ravindran passed the interim order while hearing a batch of petitions against collection of toll at three new toll plazas on the Madurai ring road.
The counsels appearing for the petitioners submitted that the toll was being collected at Vandiyur toll plaza without providing a lane for ambulance.
A senior counsel appearing for the Sri Balaji Tollways (Madurai) Private Limited, which is collecting the toll at the toll plazas, submitted that steps were being taken to expand the road at Vandiyur toll plaza. He further submitted that they would not collect toll from the Vandiyur toll plaza till the work was completed.
The judges also directed them not indirectly collect the toll for Vandiyur toll plaza at the other two toll plazas, located at Chintamani and Valayankulam. The case was adjourned to March 26 for further hearing.
