Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation in the national capital after the violence in North East Delhi over violent protests in support and opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act in North East Delhi. Measures to restore peace were discussed in this meeting. Seven people including a head constable were killed and more than 60 people were injured in violence at different places in north-east Delhi.

Home Minister Amit Shah's meeting was attended by Lt. Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, Congress leader Subhash Chopra, BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari and Ramveer Bidhuri. Central Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau Director Arvind Kumar were also present in the meeting. Earlier, Shah also held a meeting on Monday night to review the law and order situation in the national capital.

After leaving the meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, 'Everyone wants the violence to be stopped. The meeting was called by the Home Minister today, it was positive. It was decided in this meeting that all political parties will ensure that peace is restored in our city. ' He further said that the police are doing its job and the Home Minister Shah has assured that all the force needed will be provided.

Significantly, seven people including a head constable died in the violence erupted in North East Delhi over the amended Citizenship Act (CAA). At least 50 people were injured in the violence, including paramilitary and several Delhi Police personnel. Furious protesters set fire to homes, shops, vehicles and a petrol pump.
