COIMBATORE: As many as 1,245 polling stations would be set up in 100 wards of the
Coimbatore corporation limit, as per the draft
polling station list released by the corporation commissioner J Sravan Kumar on Wednesday.
After the district collector released voters list about a couple of weeks ago, the corporation started to work on preparing the polling station list based on the newly released voters list.
The commissioner said the list was prepared based on the directions of state commission. The number of polling stations have increased by 29 from 1,216 during the last draft voters list released in October.
The district administration has organised special camps to make changes in the voter card or to add or remove voters at the polling stations in the district for about a month.
Each polling station would have a maximum of 1,400 voters. All the basic amenities including drinking water, sanitation, ramps and lights are ensured in the buildings, he said, adding that they had made some changes following the request made by the public.
The total of number of voters in the corporation limit is 14.85 lakh -- 7.44 lakh men, 7.40 women and 203 falls under other category -- and the number has increased by 36,000 from the last draft voters list.
He said a meeting with representatives of political parties would be held at the collectorate on Monday. They could give suggestions for making changes on the list.
