Michael Jon Delaney, 36, struck the two pedestrians with his car on The Avenue in Warnbro just before 1.30am on Easter Sunday last year then drove off.

Stephen Read, 42, died at the scene, while Christopher Bennell, 33, was seriously injured.

Delaney faced Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link from prison where he pleaded guilty to murder and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, which had been downgraded from attempting to unlawfully kill.

He was remanded in custody to appear in the West Australian Supreme Court for a sentencing hearing on June 30.
