Gurgaon:
GMDA has issued notices to three government departments seeking payment of
water bills amounting to over Rs 31 crore. Officials said
MCG owes the maximum amount, around Rs 27 crore. The public health department owes GMDA around Rs 1.36 crore, while
HSVP has unpaid water bills amounting to around Rs 2.95 crore.
Additionally, Rapid Metro Gurugram Limited, which operated the Rapid Metro, owes GMDA around Rs 8 lakh. “We issued notices to the departments concerned for the recovery of the money last week and are awaiting a response,” a GMDA official said.
When contacted, MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said, “All water bills have been cleared.”
The Rapid Metro authorities have responded to GMDA, stating that they don’t need any water to run the metro and GMDA can snap the water connection. However, there is no mention of past dues.
Water and sewage bill charges are major sources of GMDA revenue. Till the month of January, GMDA received approximately Rs 110 crore from these two sources.
Recovery of water charges from privately developed residential societies is also a major challenge for the metropolitan authority. Over the past one year, it has issued notices and snapped water connections in many upscale condominiums due to unpaid water bills.
Almost 1,000 households were affected after GMDA disconnected water supply in South City-2 over non-payment of water bills amounting to almost Rs 1 crore.
