A pregnant mother has been left devastated after she learned her 13-year-old son had been killed in tragic accident as she took her other boy to hospital after a fall.
Kellie Simpson from Brisbane was taking her 15-year-old son Bailey Rainbird to hospital when she was given the devastating news that his younger brother Liam had been killed when he was struck by a car on his way home from school.
The pair were involved in accidents just minutes apart on February 21, leaving the family shattered.
Liam was riding his scooter on the way home when he attempted to cross Sinnathamby Boulevard in Ipswich about 3.25pm and collided with a ute, police said. He died shortly after.
Bailey suffered a fall and spent two nights in hospital and has been left with swelling, bruising and pain to his face.
Ms Simpson changed her Facebook profile picture on Sunday to a photo with her partner and Liam, writing that she hoped he would 'walk back through that door'.
'Our hearts are just so shattered. We love you so very much,' she captioned the photo.
Her sister Danni launched a GoFundMe page to help ease the cost of the funeral. It has since raised $14,023 of the $20,000 goal.
'Liam we are at a loss for words to describe the heartache we feel knowing you were taken from our family too soon. You were the sweetest, most loving child who brought us happiness since the day you were born,' the family wrote.

The family is still waiting on information to set a date for the funeral and have thanked everyone involved with their support.
'Two months out of Kellie giving birth has left her financially unstable,' Kellie wrote.
'Every dollar if you can assist, will go a long way to giving our boy the day he deserves.
'On behalf of Kellie Simpson and Jamie Harrison we would like to thank our community of friends and family for all their love, support and donations.
'The kindness from loved ones and strangers have been overwhelming and helping to get through this tragedy.'
