SECUNDERABAD: The shutting down of the Nizam-era railway printing press at
Secunderabad and four others across the country has been postponed from March 31, 2020 to June 30, 2020.
“The decision of closure of five printing presses in Secunderabad, Mumbai, Howrah, Delhi, Chennai has been deferred for a three-month period by the board,” read a letter addressed to general managers of railway divisions, by C Ravindran, director, railway board.
As much as the decision has brought a sigh of relief for employees and railway unions, the printing press are expected employees to print extra tickets to create a buffer while hiring more people on temporary basis.
“Our printing press has been printing cardboard tickets, forms and documents related to railway operations since the 1880s. The closure of the press means the material printed by us will now be outsourced from private printers, which is not good for railway employees,” a source told TOI.
