Day after being ‘raped’, 14-year-old girl hangs self in Rajasthan's Bharatpur

ALWAR/JAIPUR: A minor girl, who was allegedly raped by a local on Saturday, committed suicide in Bharatpur on Sunday.
The minor's family, which did not initially report the matter to the police, has registered a case after the suicide. Her post-mortem was done on Sunday and the cops are on the look-out for the accused.
According to the complaint, the 14-year-old girl, a Class IX student, was raped by the accused on Saturday afternoon when she had taken animals for grazing. The incident took place in Halena police station area in Bharatpur district.
"The parents did not report the matter to us and tried to reach a compromise with the village panchayat. On Sunday morning, the girl committed suicide by hanging herself at her house. After this, the parents registered a case with us," said a police official.
The girl was in a state of shock after the assault
The complaint stated that the accused attacked the girl and forcibly stripped her following which he raped her. When the girl cried for help, the villagers rescued her. They even caught the accused but delayed reporting the matter.
On Sunday, they gave the girl’s clothes, which she was wearing at the time of assault, to the cops. This will be tested by FSL. Sources claimed that the girl was in a state of shock after the assault and decided to take the extreme step. The girl’s post-mortem was done on Sunday and the body handed over in the evening. The accused went absconding as soon as the case was registered. “We are looking for the accused and since he is a local resident, he will be caught soon. This is a very serious matter and the investigation will be quick,” added the official.
