Man arrested for assaulting cop in Tamil Nadu

COIMBATORE: A 33-year-old man has been arrested for assaulting a sub-inspector of police at Valparai in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu.
The accused has been identified as V Prabhu of Valparai.
When the sub-inspector N Udhayasuriyan was on duty, J Vellaisamy, 42, of Valparai had submitted a written complaint against Prabhu and his friend Senthil Kumar. In his complaint, Vellaisamy had stated that the duo had been abusing him and threatening to murder him following a quarrel.
The inspector registered a case against the duo under sections 294 (b) (using obscene words) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On Sunday morning, the inspector went to the municipality market to conduct a preliminary investigation.
When the officer returned, the duo were waiting for him at the station. Soon an argument erupted between the inspector and them. Prabhu verbally abused the inspector. When the inspector asked him to be patience, the accused dragged him by his shirt and assaulted him.
Other police personnel on duty intervened. Despite several warnings, the accused threatened the inspector and fled the spot with his friend.
The Valparai police registered a case under sections 294 (b), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assaulting the public servant in execution of his duty), 506 (i) of the IPC and arrested Prabhu on Sunday evening. He was remanded in judicial custody.
