LUDHIANA: The police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two snatchers near civil hospital.
Eight snatched cellphones were recovered from the possession of Akshay and Shubham, both residents of Valmiki Nagar in Jodhewal.
Assistant commissioner of police (Central) Waryam Singh said, “The duo had been active in the city from the past several years. Earlier, they were arrested for snatching and vehicle thefts. They were lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail. Three months ago, they came out on bail and again started committing snatchings.”
In the past two-and-a-half months, the two stole a motorcycle and a scooter. “They used these stolen vehicles for executing snatchings. They mostly snatched cellphones from commuters in areas like Sundar Nagar, Daresi, Salem Tabri and Division 4. Shubham is a drug addict. He took to the crime world to fund his addiction. Akshay joined him to make easy money.”
A case has been registered.
