The silver sedan, registration 1DJL 456, was found dumped on Dwyer Street just after 1pm, with the driver believed to have fled on foot.

The car was found about three minutes from where the initial shot was fired.

A heavy police presence at the Dorothy and Corfield Street intersection remains, and the police  helicopter remains in the area.

Southern River College, Ashburton Drive Primary and Seaforth Public School are all currently in lockdown as the search for the driver continues.

Primary schools in the area who were on lockdown have since been re-opened, but Dorothy Street has been blocked off to the public.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact 000 immediately.
