Coimbatore: Three youths, who were arrested on charges of murdering a kabaddi player after he won a match by roping in guest players, have been detained under Goondas Act.
Vijayakumar, 23, of Rajivgandhi Street at Nehru Nagar in Vadavalli, his brother R Kannan, 21, and his friend A Hariharan, 21, of Jothipuram near Periyanaickenpalayam, were jailed last month for murdering K Naveenkumar, 23, of Slum Clearance Board Colony at Ammankulam.
He was stabbed to death by the trio after his team won a kabaddi match, which was organized as part of Pongal celebrations on January 16, with the help of three guest players.
“The same evening, the trio waylaid Naveenkumar, who was accompanied by his friend Logeshwaran, 26, of Highways Colony on Trichy Road, and scolded him for preferring guest players to local youths. As they entered into a heated argument, Vijayakumar pulled out a knife from his pant pocket and stabbed Naveenkumar on his chest and abdomen five times. Logeshwaran also suffered a stab injury to his hand while trying to save his friend. The gang fled immediately after attacking the duo.”

The Ramanathapuram police prepared a detailed report against the trio and requested city police commissioner Sumit Sharan to detain them under Goondas Act.
