Noida: Confusion over whether the
Kalindi Kunj border has been opened for vehicles led a number of
commuters from the Noida side to flock to the spot, only to be redirected to the
DND route that they have been taking for more than two months now.
As of now,
Delhi Police has opened only one carriageway at the border — the one from Faridabad to Noida. But commuters said a few TV channels apparently flashed news that both sides of the road had been opened for vehicles, leading to the confusion. On Sunday morning, there was a long tail of vehicles outside
Okhla Bird Sanctuary metro station, where
barricades have been placed. Traffic police officers said things could have much worse had it been a weekday. “As of now, we are only allowing two-wheelers to cross the barricades,” a policeman said.
Noida traffic police clarified that only the carriageway from Faridabad to Noida had been opened by their Delhi counterparts and they did not have any directive to remove barricades on the other side. “We had closed the road on the Delhi Police’s directions. It will not be opened until they ask for it,” said Anil Kumar Jha, the additional DCP (traffic).
