Munbai: Man arrested for raping 25-year-old mentally challenged woman

MUMBAI: The Shivaji Nagar police on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping a 25-year-old mentally challenged woman in her house while her mother had gone to a Navi Mumbai hospital where she is undergoing treatment for cancer. The accused was produced before a court and remanded to police custody till February 29.
The incident took place on February 20. The rape survivor's 75-year-old grandmother lodged a police complaint. The survivor lives in Govandi with her grandmother, mother and a younger brother.
The accused is a friend of the survivor's brother. On the day of incident, he went to their house to inquire about his friend. When he found out the woman's brother was not at home, he entered the house and raped the victim. Locals saw the woman crying for help, said police. They alerted her mother and grandmother.
