Madurai city police commissioner post upgraded to ADGP rank

MADURAI: The Madurai city police commissioner’s posting, which was at the level of Inspector General (IG) of police, has now been upgraded to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) on Sunday through a government order.
City police commissioner S Davidson Devasirvatham will continue in the same post as he was in the list of officials fit for promotion for ADGP released by the state government. He was promoted on Sunday as ADGP. The orders of upgradation of posting and retaining him in the same post came on Sunday evening.
Davidson, who took part in an event earlier in the day, said that crime incidents like murder, attempt to murder, house break-in, robbery and chain snatchings in the city has been on the decline. However, he was concerned about the increase in the number domestic violence, dowry harassment cases, cheating cases involving money and property.
Davidson took charge as city police commissioner in June 2018. The 1995-batch IPS officer was educated in Loyola College in Chennai and Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. He started his career as ASP Paramakudi and has served in various cities and districts in various capacities. Davison has also served in the UN peace keeping force in Kosovo and as IG Intelligence.
