The additional charge for Airbnb-style holiday homes must not go beyond 6% of the guest’s bill, as per the legislation drafted by Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
The resolution “aims to enhance the reputation of the emirate as a leading destination for high quality hospitality and to ensure that each tourism facility is afforded equal opportunity to attract business”.
The Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) will accumulate fees for issuing licenses and for “providing services related to holiday homes in the emirate”.
The Executive Council also approved a decision for DCT for modifying the penalty system applicable for tourism facilities in the capital in keeping with the new legislation.
In May 2016, it was announced that Abu Dhabi hotels would charge a new additional fee of 4 percent of hotel stay bill and AED15 per night per room.
