Lordstown Motors Previews Its Electric Endurance Pickup

EV startup Lordstown Motors has released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the company’s massive factory and the ongoing development of its all-electric Endurance pickup truck.

Lordstown Motors operates out of GM’s former plant in Lordstown, Ohio that was once responsible for building the Chevrolet Cruze. While this clip showcases much of the expansive factory, it’s footage of the Endurance’s underpinnings that really have us interested.

Most notably, we can see that the Lordstown Endurance features a solid rear axle with leaf springs at the back, much like a traditional pickup truck. That’s interesting because other electric pickups in the works, such as the Rivian R1T and Bollinger B2, have independent suspension at all four corners, Autoblog notes. The clip also confirms that the Endurance’s batteries will be located in the floor.

Battle Of The Electric Trucks: See How The GMC Hummer EV, Tesla Cybertruck And Rivian R1T Stack Up

It was confirmed late last year that the Endurance will feature in-hub electric motors, one at each wheel. This is also rather unique as most forthcoming electric pickups have dual-motor setups. Exceptions to be this will be the tri-motor versions of the GMC Hummer EV and the range-topping Tesla Cybertruck.

All up, the Lordstown Endurance should offer up 600 hp and have an EPA-estimated range of 200 miles (320 km). Details about the battery pack’s capacity remain unclear but it is tipped to sit between 70 kWh and 80 kWh.

Lordstown is particularly keen to promote the Endurance as being designed for commercial use and this likely explains the lack of independent rear suspension.
