Coimbatore: Eight-year-old boy drowns in PAP canal

COIMBATORE: An eight-year-old boy drowned in Parambikulam-Aliyar-Project (PAP) canal near Aliyar here on Friday evening while he was playing with his relatives near the canal.
The Aliyar police identified the deceased as K Kavin, of JJ Nagar at Angalakurichi. He was a Class III student. He is survived by his mother, who is a daily wage labourer, and an elder sister, a Class VII student. His father had died of some illness a few years ago. According to a police officer, the incident took place on Friday (February 21) evening when Kavin and his relatives went to PAP canal near Gopalasamy Puliyankandi Karupparayan Kovil for taking bath.
“He was playing with his relatives when he suddenly fell in the canal and drowned. A few of his kin immediately jumped into the canal to rescue the boy. However, he was washed away in the strong water current.” the officer said.
