Thiruvananthapuram: At a time when the state is heading for local body polls this year and assembly polls next year, the
Congress in the state is facing severe
infighting. If group wars used to be the issue till date, now the party is facing a new fight with the
KPCC president on the one side and the group leaders on the other.
Now both the KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran and the group leaders have approached the party high command against each other.
The KPCC president has approached the high command for the leaders targeting him at the PAC meet, and the group managers have complained against the style of functioning of the party state president.
This infighting had come to the fore in the last political affairs committee (PAC) when the leaders targeted the KPCC president for his style of functioning. Irked over the criticisms, Ramachandran had approached the AICC leadership and emphasized that he would not convene the PAC anymore if the situation continues.
Ramachandran is adamant that the political affairs committee should not be a platform for character assassination. He was also irked over the way the leaders leaked the discussions of the PAC to the media.
Ramachandran informed the AICC leadership that he was being targeted since he was against MPs and MLAs being given party posts. However, the group managers are up in arms against the president over his lack of coordination with the senior leaders. “The KPCC president, the opposition leader and Oommen Chandy are the senior leaders heading the party in the state. There is a lack of coordination among the three. Then how will the party have an unanimous opinion on any issue,” said a senior party leader.
The PAC is the crucial body which decides on the policy of KPCC on all issues. If the KPCC president is unwilling to convene this, then how will the party function in the state, particularly when the elections are round the corner, asked a former KPCC president.
