The Carnival of Venice is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy. The carnival ends with the Christian celebration of Lent, forty days before Easter, on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. The festival is very popular for its elaborate masks.

Venice had two more days for the Carnival to end, but now, it has been stopped abruptly.

Authorities have asked everyone to go home. The cancellation of this traditional event which is a major tourism revenue earner is a blow to the city of Venice, as well as tradition and tourism for Italy.

270 kms away from Venice, Milan was getting ready for the last day of their famous Fashion Week on Monday. Authorities in the second-largest city in Northern Italy have canceled events on Monday surrounding the Fashion week.

These decisions were regarding growing number of corona virus cases in Italy. The number of confirmed cases in Italy went up to 157, making it the largest center of infections in Europe with death of three people.
